Bournemouth & District Motor Services
Limited was incorporated in 1916. In 1920
following the purchase of Trade Cars of
Southampton, the Hants & Dorset name was
adopted. In 1964 Wilts & Dorset Motor
Services Limited came under the management
of Hants & Dorset and managed from the head
office in Bournemouth. In January 1969,
Hants & Dorset and Wilts & Dorset passed to
the National Bus Company. In 1970 the
Gosport & Fareham Omnibus Company became
part of the National Bus Company and came
under the control of Hants & Dorset, but
remained a separate entity. In 1972 the
Wilts & Dorset operations were merged with
Hants & Dorset. On the 1st April 1983, Hants
& Dorset Motor Services was divided into
three separate operating companies: Wilts &
Dorset Bus Company Ltd, Poole, Provincial
Bus Company Limited, Hoeford and Hampshire
Bus Company Limited, Eastleigh
